Establish safe following distance, 6 sec following rule
6 sec of space is the minimum safety margin
At 55 mph it takes nearly 300ft to bring your coach to a complete stop, air brakes can add as much as 32 feet to stop the coach
6 sec gives you 330ft to stop in ideal road conditions
When travelling at higher speeds or inclement weather conditions, increase your following distance to 8 or more seconds
Anything less than 6 sec following distance is tailgating
Set a pace just below those passing you to ensure 6 sec following distance
Do not worry about following other coaches to the same destination, treat each coach as a separate charter
